Each constellation will be optimized for the target application, in terms of technologies, coverage, but also security functions. The challenge, but also the opportunity is to make use of all the possible infrastructure to enhance coverage and resilience of these systems by the integration of optical communication security features like Low Probability to be detected or interfered (LPD/LPI).However, different users will have different protection profiles and thereforesecurity targets will differ between networks. The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (referred to as Common Criteria) is an international standard (ISO/IEC 15408) used to specify security functional and assurance requirements, to guarantee implementation and verification of the security features and it can be used as a baseline for the security analysis of different networks and interoperability of security levels.This activity shall define a set of protection profiles for different target users and identify the security targets for different networks. Taking HydRON as a baseline for communications, the activity shall consider additional, selected national or EC networks interconnected by optical links in space or with optical ground stations and ground networks.For such security interoperability, the activity will define the required security functions (confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation...) and achievable levels of assurance by the different space networks. For the sected networks, an analysis of the impact shall be performed for each of these security functions, including a preliminary assessment of vulnerabilities by different potential threat actors and its impact on the system. The feasibility of applying Common Criterialframework or similar framework for these networks shall be assessed. Additionally, the achievable level of protection by the different networks shall be provided as a draft catalogue, to be presented to potential users.
