An evaluation of the sub-system, the choice of equipment and the operational implementation shall be addressed for use on optical communication links through the atmosphere. The activity will perform a numerical study comparing the main possible beacons to be used as reference for pre- and post-compensation in Adaptive Optics (AO) in the context of optical communications, using as a reference the 3 main solutions: Sodium Guide Star, Beacon from the satellite and Rayleigh Guide Star. A selection of suitable equipment solutions will need to be chosen and the impact of the beacon method on the global architecture/cost, ease of operation/complexity/laser safety of backscattered light evaluated. Upon a positive solution being proposed, integration and tests will be conducted in a laboratory environment, and then on-sky tests will be conducted.","ecosrequired":true,"establishment":"ESTEC","firstPublicationDate":"2025-02-06T10:00:55","id":143710,"idEra":22997,"initiatingService":"RNC-FQ","ipmeasure":"N/A","isArchived":false,"isCancelled":false,"isReissued":false,"isToBeReissued":false,"issueQuarter":"252","lastUpdateTime":"2026-09-30T15:05:21","lastUpdateUser":"rhamill","openDate":"2026-09-30T15:05:18","priceRange":"> 500 KEURO","programmeReference":"OP-Other Act.
